Learning about baseball (kinda sorta not really)

I have watched one baseball game in my life, and it was in person when my family moved to the US for 18 months. I was 3 when we left England and 5 when we got back, so I never knew which baseball game, only that I found it really boring and fell asleep.

And that I got a baseball signed by one of the teams - a heavily-signed baseball in a specially-made plastic case with a plinth-like base.

Now I know, it was Rangers vs Orioles, July 30th 1997.

So if I'm reading that right, the game lasted 3 hours and of 58 pitches batters there were only 9 hits. Is that a normal amount of game activity? I mean, I've been to football ("soccer") matches that had less action, but they were also pretty damn dull.
