On power company names
We just had a 6-minute powercut, which was just long enough for me to become irritated with power company names.
I searched for "[town] powercut" to see if it was a big outage. The top results were "UK Power Networks" and "National Grid". Being nice generic names I foolishly assumed they were like aggregators that tracked national issues. Nope! UK Power Networks only serves London and the Southeast, National Grid serves a swathe of the Midlands, Wales, and the Southwest. I apparently live in the bubble between Southeast and Southwest that's served by "Scottish and Southern", shown on this handy map.
Scottish and Southern were link no. 4 in my search, but come on! What is this naming scheme!
Rant over, now to argue my router back into service.
